On September 22, 1957, in a community of approximately 300 permanent residents, the first worship services of St. Paul Lutheran Church were held in “The Little White Church” located on the corner of East Royal Palm Rd. and Golf View Drive. One of those permanent residents was Mr. Stuart Moore, who was the manager of the Boca Raton Resort and club. Mr. Moore invited is former pastor, the Rev. George Schuster, to come and lay the groundwork for a new church in this small town of Boca Raton.
This new Lutheran church grew rapidly and the first educational wing was added to the little white church in 1958. Unfortunately, due to health reason, Pastor Schuster was forced to step down after only two years. On September 25, 1960, Rev. Eugene Krug was installed as the new pastor and remained until his retirement in 1987.
Under his leadership, there was a great deal of excitement as on October 7, 1962 the last service was held in the little white church and the congregation processed in caravan to its new location at 701 W. Palmetto Park Rd., moving into their new church.
Over the next several years, a series of building programs were conducted to meet the ongoing needs of this growing congregation. School buildings, office space and a new sanctuary were built in 1982. In 1983, the congregation’s growth was at a point that a second pastor was called in the person of Rev. Thomas Ahlersmeyer. However, in 1987, after more than 25 years as their pastor, Pastor Krug retired from full time ministry. In the same year, Pastor Ahlersmeyer accepted a call to Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio.
In 1988, Pastor Dennis Glick accepted their call to be the new administrative pastor. Under his leadership, the congregation has continued its steady growth. In 1999 a new Family Life Center was build along with eight new classrooms, a new youth room and new offices for the church and school.
As their growth has continued, additional staff was added to meet the growing demands of a Christian Day School of over 500 students and conduct the four weekly worship services. Currently Pastor Tom Pfotenhauer and Pastor Ben Haupt serve as Associate Pastors joining a staff of some 85 other staff members who serve the many ministries of St. Paul Lutheran Church and School.
