Prayer Shawl Ministry
CAST ON and join us in this new ministry, "knitting/crocheting of prayer shawls". Prayer shawls are a gift of comfort and warmth entwined with many Blessings and Prayers. The Shawl Ministry begain over 10 years ago by two women attending a seminary, Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo. The shawl ministry has now spread throughout the United States and around the world. For more information about the shawl ministry see: shawlministry.com.
Our St. Paul Prayer Shawl Ministry has grown over the past 5 years expanding our giving to include our soldiers. We give shawls to families of our "Fallen Soldiers", and also create Prayer Cloths for soldiers being deployed around the world. Prayer Shawls for Fallen Soldiers, PS4FS is an organization started by Cozette Haggerty while her daughter was doing a tour in Iraq.
Our shawls are given to those who are sick, lonely, bereaved, or even for a joyous event. We create the prayer shawls in assorted colors and textures using a K3P3. (knit3/Purl3) motif, representing the Holy Trinity. As we stitch, we pray for those who will receive the shawls, whether they are known to us or not.
Even if you have never knitted or crocheted before and would like to learn, the prayer shawl is an easy project. Teaching to knit or crochet is available. Once you have learned to make a shawl, you can then work on your shawl at your leisure in your home. We meet monthly (Sat) to share our work, to read and discuss a devotion, to pray, all the while working on our prayer shawls. For more information contact listed below.
Part of the journey of prayer is to recognize that we may never know how our love, care, and prayers will touch or change another person's life through this beautiful ministry. If you have been looking for a way to become involved in some aspect of ministry here at your church and if this appeals to your gifts, contact, Janie Lester, Chairperson, St Paul Prayer Shawl Ministry.
